Worthy of It All
“You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.”
Revelation 4:11
As a young believer, I remember being especially connected to a particular pastor’s teaching. I appreciated his style of preaching and how it felt like he was speaking directly to me with every sermon. When I found out he had written a book, I picked it up the moment I saw it. (Fun fact: I just happened to be at a bookstore after a ministry school class near where we currently live, and they had mistakenly put the book on the shelf about two weeks early. Did I feel guilty for buying it before its release date? Yes. Did that stop me? Absolutely not! I was thrilled to see it.)
In his book, the pastor created space to wrestle with foundational questions about Jesus: Who was He when He walked the earth? How can we describe Him? How did He live His life? Ultimately, the book resolves the same way Scripture does—by pointing to this truth: Jesus is God.
One of his examples shared a perspective I’ve found to be common: that life can feel like we’re caught in a cosmic fight between good and evil. “Can Jesus come through this time?” we wonder. “Is this the moment when everything falls apart?” It’s easy to feel, especially in difficult seasons, as though the “good side” is losing. But when victory, joy, or success arrives, it’s as if Jesus has caught His second wind and is back in the fight. Thankfully, this isn’t reality. Jesus isn’t striving to win a battle; according to His Word, the battle has already been won. (See 1 John 4:4, 1 John 5:4, Romans 8:37.)
Still, victory doesn’t always feel like victory—does it?
The struggle at work.
The unwanted doctor’s report.
The challenges within our homes, marriages, and relationships.
Whether the difficulty is physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, or even financial, it’s easy to slip back into that “cosmic boxing match” mindset, hoping Jesus will come through.
Friend, the battle is already won!
In Revelation, John records the words spoken around the throne of God:
“You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.” (Revelation 4:11)
He also writes:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come.” (Revelation 4:8)
These verses remind us that Jesus is worthy of it all.
No matter the circumstance, situation, or battle, He is worthy—simply because of who He is.
As we enter the holiday season and anticipate celebrating Jesus’ birth, I encourage you to posture your heart in worship. Remind yourself that He is God, He is faithful, and He will meet every need. Strengthen yourself in the Lord with His Word by declaring:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty—the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come. You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power. For you created all things, and they exist because you created what you pleased.”
